Wordpress itself is a great example of a Web 2.0 powerhouse and the clever people who developed this excellent, award winning software were doing Web 2.0 stuff before the term was even invented!

Web 2.0 basically refers to a user experience which is focused more on interaction than simply information delivery alone. Sites like Digg and Propeller where users submit their own news stories have seen a huge growth in popularity in recent years and it seems that every other day we see a new web 2.0 kid on the block.

One of the reasons these social sites are so powerful from a marketing point of view is that the search engines seem to absolutely love them. Because of the intense update schedules of these sites, Google and the others treat them as major authorities and attach huge weight to the links originating on these sites.

Sometimes a single link from Digg is enough to shoot your page to the top of Google (if you chose your target keyphrase wisely). Internet marketing in the new web 2.0 world is not all that much different from how it was back in the day (all of 18 months ago!). You still need to select appropriate keywords. You still need to create engaging, unique content and you need to get links to that content.

What has changed is the places you get your links from and the traffic originating from these links. The IM world is ever evolving and if you don’t keep up your site will fade into obscurity.
